workSHoP is a new exhibition exploring the work of the New York-based architecture and design firm SHoP Architects. Selected as the architects for SITE’s future building expansion, SHoP has distinguished itself as an innovative and highly collaborative firm that embraces a range of approaches from novel sustainability concepts to next-generation fabrication techniques.

Through their work, SHoP harnesses the power of interdisciplinary expertise to create architecture that makes our cities more vibrant, more beautiful, and more rewarding places for all to live. Operating from studios in New York, the critically acclaimed firm has projects completed or underway on five continents. At the heart of SHoP’s work is a respect for the expressive potential of traditional architectural materials, and a pioneering technological capability that transforms them into inspiring statements for the world of today.

workSHoP will explore SHoP’s design philosophy, working methods, and approaches to materials through the lens of eight projects that all inform the design of SITE’s new building. These projects including: 475 West 18th Street, New York; Uber Headquarters, San Francisco; LaGuardia Airport Master Plan, Queens, New York; Botswana Innovation Hub, Republic of Botswana; 111 West 57th Street, New York; Domino Sugar Refinery Master Plan, Brooklyn, New York; Barclays Center, Brooklyn, New York; and Konza Techno Pavilion, Nairobi, Kenya.

In addition to presenting building models, renderings, and animated visuals of these past and current projects, workSHoP will also feature large-scale plans, material studies, and a Virtual Reality experience that will give viewers an immersive preview of SHoP’s design for SITE Santa Fe’s building expansion scheduled for completion in the fall of 2017.
