Young Curators: Pick

Pick is an informative and creative discussion of consumerism. The artwork, by young adult and teen artists, is a commentary on the consequences of the lifestyle of first-world consumers. The exhibition explores the adverse effects of consumerism on the environment and on first and third-world communities. The Young Curators ask that visitors expand their awareness and acknowledge their personal contributions to this issue. Through the exhibition and community collaborations, the Young Curators hope to provide dialogue, solicit solutions, and draw awareness to the costs of our perpetual desire for consumption.

The Young Curators will also present a screening of the documentary, The True Cost, at 7pm on May 17th at the Center for Contemporary Arts Cinematheque, 1050 Old Pecos Trail  Santa Fe, NM 87505.

This presentation is in collaboration with CCA, the Santa Fe Farmers’ Market and the Street Food Institute as part of Farms Films Food and will be free to the public. The True Cost provided inspiration for the Young Curators’ exhibition. Together with the Farmers’ Market and the Street Food Institute, the Young Curators will discuss the effects of the fast fashion industry and its parallels to sustainable food consumerism. This program is made possible by the generosity of Life Is My Movie Entertainment and Santa Fe’s Center for Contemporary Art Cinematheque.

On the final day of the exhibition, the Young Curators will present a Closing Reception and Clothing Swap from 5-7 pm at the Georgia O’Keeffe Education Annex.

The public is invited for free food and refreshments. To participate in the swap, please bring a minimum donation of two clothing items (maximum two brown bags) and select from the items available. The swap ends at 7pm or when there are no more clothing items. All remaining clothing will be donated.
