SITE Santa Fe’s Young Curators present Guises from April 13 – May 16, 2018 at SITE Santa Fe. The public is invited to join the Young Curators for a free opening event on Thursday, April 12, 2018 from 5:30-7 pm at SITE.
In their upcoming exhibition, Guises, the Young Curators are exploring the concept of identity and the self. Though it is a timeless theme, the Young Curators have curated works by youth that remind viewers how powerful it can be when young people are self-aware. These works recognize the importance of the creative process of making art as a method for artists to discover aspects of themselves, even if those aspects change and morph over time. Sub-themes present among the works in this exhibition are: growth, transparency, vulnerability, expectations, lenses, self-alteration, self-acceptance, and how external factors impact identity. With this exhibition, the Young Curators hope to transform the often limited ways adults tend to categorize youth.
Participating artists are: Rowan Brown, Mia Carswell, Isabel Collins, Lili Dale, Erin Elliot, Cruz Garcia, Elizabeth Hanselmann, Mark Joseph, Ana Linn, Alex McLaughlin, Greeley Miller, Broadus Mobbs, Clara Natonabah, Attacus Peknik, Hawk Platero, Magdalena Ramos-Mullane, Savina M. Romero, Hailey Tyra, Sara Vianco, Elana Wallach, and Fallon Wrede.
The Young Curators will also present an Open Mic Night in SITE’s Auditorium. Youth are encouraged to share and perform original work. RSVPs are requested but not required. Please email lee@sitesantafe.org. This event is free and open to the public. Free pizza and refreshments provided.
The exhibition is free and open to the public Mondays-Thursdays and Saturdays from 10am-5pm; Fridays from 10am-7pm; and Sundays from 12-5pm.
