Sound and Spectacle: Estamos Trio with video by ACVilla

$15 general admission/ $10 members, students

Estamos Trio is an exploratory music ensemble formed through the cross-border Estamos Project founded by Thollem McDonas in 2010. The trio’s first album, People’s Historia, was released on Relative Pitch Records in 2013. Experimental vocalist Carmina Escobar is a performer, improviser, sound and intermedia artist from Mexico City. Her work focuses primarily on sound, the voice, the body, and their interrelations to physical, social, memory and present spaces.  Mexican creative drummer/composer and independent artist Milo Tamez specializes in solo extended-prepared drum set percussion. Tamez has produced compositions exploring into a new percussive poetics, cinematic experiences, and tour de force drumming manifestos; he also has collaborated with composers premiering new music works for solo drum set percussion.  Thollem McDonas is a pianist, keyboardist, composer, improviser, singer-songwriter, activist, author and teacher. He’s spent his life skirting and erasing the edges of boundaries musically, culturally, geographically. His work is ever changing, evolving and responding to the times and his experiences, both as a soloist and in collaboration with hundreds of artists across idioms and disciplines.

Carmina Escobar and Milo Tamez (Extended Drumset / San Luis Potosí) join Thollem McDonas (Acoustic and Electric Keyboards / San José) in a multidimensional metaphonic adventure in sonic fields familiar, foreign, and renewed. Their intention is realized in every sound and every breath, to experience the gathering together in this evaporating moment of pulsing energetic waves: the culmination of all time up to now.  Looking at a scene both as a whole and as a unique union of colors, shapes, textures and circumstances, video artist ACVilla focuses her camera on both impossibly large subjects as well as the nuances that define the dynamics and character of the fleeting yet eternal present moment.

“An instantaneous and collective form of composition that opens a route to the oral heritage of the ancients.” – Rui Eduardo Paes Jazz.pt (Portugal)
