Making the Twain Meet: A Panel moderated by Santa Fe Opera’s Dramaturg, Cori Ellison
$10 general admission/ $5 members, students
This program is sponsored in part by business council member
In its 2019 season, Santa Fe Opera presents classic 18th– and 19th-century operas as well as the world premiere of a new opera inspired by a tale from the Brothers Grimm. Cori Ellison, Santa Fe Opera’s company dramaturg, leads a panel of Santa Fe Opera performing and creative artists in considering how contemporary opera professionals navigate such issues as race, gender, and class when presenting works created in vastly different societies than ours today.
Cori Ellison is staff dramaturg at Santa Fe Opera and has previously served in that role at Glyndebourne Festival Opera and New York City Opera. She teaches dramaturgy for American Lyric Theater’s Composer Librettist Development Program, History of Singing at The Juilliard School’s Vocal Arts Institute, and is a faculty member at the Ravinia Steans Music Institute.
This panel discussion will include three members of the Santa Fe Opera’s La boheme creative team and cast, director Mary Birnbaum, soprano Gabriela Reyes, and baritone Will Liverman. You may find their bios and photos on this page.
