Gen-erate is a new SITE’s Education Department program that offers three Santa Fe teens the chance to curate public programs at SITE and to engage in intergenerational programming that responds to the themes of SITE exhibitions, focuses on topical issues of local importance, and brings teens and adults together for constructive dialogue through the exploration of contemporary art and expression. This program is supported by a grant from Santa Fe County. SITE’s first three Gen-erate teens are Lavina Gray, Natalia Payne, and Malia Seva.
Gen-erate participant Natalia Payne presents a new film every Friday in the month of May, Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, highlighting the marginalization and underrepresentation of certain peoples in Hollywood and popular media by presenting underrepresented Asian/Asian American artists such as actors, animators, writers and directors.
Natalia’s notes: The Farewell (2019) is based on a true story and showcases a lot of underrated Asian American female talent in Hollywood. I love it because conveys so much about Chinese and American culture, how they interact and conflict with one another, and the struggle of that duality among different generations of immigrants and their families.
