SITE Santa Fe is thrilled to present an excerpt from Can We Know the Sound of Forgiveness, a forthcoming collaborative stage performance, set to premier at Rice University’s Brockman Hall for Opera in late 2023/early 2024. The brief excerpt from the work-in-progress will be followed by a panel discussion and a reception with the artists.
In a groundbreaking merging of art practices, acclaimed visual artist James Drake, award-winning writer Benjamin Sáenz, world-renowned composer Gabriela Ortiz, New York-based performance artist Shaun Leonardo, and master flutist Alejandro Escuer have entered into an unprecedented collaboration to create a multimedia performance that poses urgent questions around hope and healing through a diverse alliance that spans art, contemporary classical music, performance, and poetry.
Other members of the creative team include producer/director Steve Jiménez, curator Leila Hamidi, consulting producer Terrie Sultan, videographer Bill Megalos, and photographer Martirene Alcántara. Matthew Loden, Dean of the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, Houston, is serving as executive producer.
