Dovetail Orchestra returns to SITE Santa Fe this spring to present The Marriage of Ivory, a fun riffing on themes of the Bel Canto show. This time, composer Ross Hamlin and his collaborators remove all the audio from a vintage episode of Guiding Light (the longest-running soap opera ever) and, in the vein of Woody Allen’s What’s Up, Tiger Lily, re-write and replace all the dialogue and sound design with original hilarious and surreal content. Actual operatic elements are incorporated as well, such as the use of a mezzo-soprano for speaking and singing, along with Wagnerian leitmotifs throughout. A new iteration of Dovetail Orchestra provides live music, sound effects, and dialogue. Vintage cartoons with similar treatments precede and follow the main program.
Doors open at 6:30PM.
