Digest This!: Failures & Scandals in Art, Science, and Music

    Digest This!

    6:00 PM

Jennie Hirsh, Nina Elder, David Dash, and Grace Browning with a tasting by Cheesemongers of Santa Fe

    $10 general admission/$5 members, students

Jennie Hirsh presents a 20 minute overview of the course that she will present at SITE on exhibitions and artworks that have sparked controversy, debate, protests, and more that led to productive conversations and even seismic shifts in not only what we include in the canon but also what we consider to be art.

In many ways, science is an extractive industry. Throughout the early 1900’s, explorers sought not only gold and silver, but specimens to fill museums and private science collections. Without considering the impact of those voracious practices, institutions are still filled with natural objects that are sacred to indigenous peoples. The meteorite collecting spree of last century is one of the most highly destructive and inhumane stories that is hidden within science. Nina Elder explores the extraction of sacred meteorites and the voids that are left behind.

Santa Fe Opera musicians David Dash (Trumpet) and Grace Browning (harp) perform a fascinating program exploring the works of three legendary composers (R. Schumann, C. Schumann, and J. Brahms), the tragedies that brought them together, and the love that inspired music for the ages.

In the spirit of tailgating at the opera, SITE Santa Fe will partner with Cheesemongers of Santa Fe for each Digest This! program this season. Tastings will include samplings of treats like cheeses, charcuterie, jams, crackers, olives, dried fruits, and other accompaniments. Check out Cheesemongers of Santa Fe for their opera plates for your opera tailgating needs!

    Doors open at 5:30 PM.

Guided by artists, rooted in New Mexico, SITE SANTA FE celebrates contemporary creative expression.
