SITE SANTA FE Lobby
Forest for the Trees is a participatory program centered on alternative photography processing and reflecting on the ever-expanding fire-impacted regions of New Mexico. Exhibiting artist Tristan Duke's Glacial Optics exhibition will be temporarily converted into a working darkroom, illuminated with red “safelights”. Audience members are invited to join Duke as he processes photos using a developer made from local pine needles. The pine needles are sourced from New Mexico sites devastated by wildfires, such as the Calf Canyon/Hermits Peak fires.
Forest for the Trees further expands Duke's concern for the interconnected phenomenon of rising global temperatures causing glaciers to melt at an accelerated rate, while simultaneously leading to more frequent and intense wildfires due to drier conditions. Join Duke to explore climate change issues and alternative photo processing in this intimate program.
