Born in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, Valeska Soares studied in her home country and at Pratt Insitutute in New York, where she now lives and works. She was included in the 1994 São Paulo Biannale, and has exhibited extensively in Brazil and the United States.

Her installations and photographs move through various media, with recurrent themes; she describes her work as "a play with a particular inventory of objects, matter and images that try to examine the possibilities of developing images from other images, working with their densities, density understood here as a capacity to communicate on various levels: physical, virtual, conceptual, psychological, temporal, etc."
