Rauch’s canvases are populated with workers wielding impractical tools and curious hybrids of animals and machines. His vignettes fuse repose and turbulence, orderliness and insanity, within a mysterious, dream-like atmosphere. Rauch utilizes the colors and illustrations of commercial graphics he encountered daily while growing up in East Germany.
