1975

Location:

Mexico City, Mexico

Website:

Minerva Cuevas is a conceptual artist based in Mexico City. Her work has been recognized for her public interventions and the creation of projects and artworks exploring social relations and appropriating corporate and popular culture languages to access our familiar visual references and address the human role and relationship with the natural world. Her practice is developed through an inclusive concept of ecology and an extended archeological practice.

Among the central topics she has addressed through her work are the history of the oil industry and the notions of civilization and progress developed as in-situ art projects using a wide range of media—installation, video, muralism, sculpture, and public intervention.

She founded Better Life Corporation in 1998 and the International Understanding Foundation in 2016. She has exhibited extensively worldwide including:The River, Cc Foundation, Shanghai (2024); In Gods We Trust, kurimanzutto, New York, NY (2023); Game Over, Museo Jumex, Mexico City (2022); Dark Matter, Institute of Contemporary Art San Diego (ICA), CA (2022); Migratory, Rubin Center, El Paso, TX (2022); No Room To Play, Daadgalerie, Berlin (2019); Disidencia, The Mishkin Gallery, New York, NY (2019); Fine Lands, Dallas Museum of Art, TX (2017); Feast and Famine, kurimanzutto, Mexico City (2015); Minerva Cuevas, Museo de la Ciudad de México, Mexico City (2012); SCOOP, Whitechapel Gallery, London (2010); Minerva Cuevas, Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven, and has been part of the Artists in Berlin program from the DAAD; the Delfina Foundation, London; The Banff Centre for Arts in Canada and Kadist Foundation in San Francisco.
