Marta María Perez Bravo

Born and educated in Havana, Pérez Bravo began as a painter but has become an artist who performs for the camera, mixing personal recollections with cultural symbols from vernacular Catholicism and the Afro-Cuban Santería tradition. She has had solo exhibitions in Finland, Cuba Colombia, Germany, and the United States, and her work has been included in group exhibtions in Europe and Latin America. In 1989 she was featured in both the Havana Bienal and the São Paulo Biannale.
