BACK TO ARTISTS

Johanna Calle

Johanna Calle earned her BA in Art History from Los Andes University in Bogotá, Colombia and received her MFA from the Chelsea College of Art at the London Institute.

Her exploration of drawing and pushing the medium into a wide variety of techniques are at the heart of her formal practice. Her method of line making is that of a physical approach–one that includes wire, stitching, text, along with the more traditional use of ink and pencil. “To me, the possibility of constructing a drawing with other material captivates me. I found in them an ideal medium for experimentation.” – Johanna Calle

Calle’s work can be found in prestigious collections such as the Museum of Modern Art, New York City, NY; the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, TX; and the National Museum of Colombia, Bogotá.

SITElines.2014

Unsettled Landscapes looked at the urgencies, political conditions and historical narratives that inform the work of contemporary artists across the Americas – from Nunavut to Tierra del Fuego. Through three themes – landscape, territory, and trade – this exhibition expresses the interconnections among representations of the land, movement across the land, and economies and resources derived from the land.
