Jakob Matter was born in Lübeck, Germany in 1946, and lives and works in Berlin. His work has appeared in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Europe and the United Sates, and has received many awards, including a DAAD stipend for Rome; the Villa-Romana prize, Florence; and the Cité des Arts, Paris.
