Irene Kopelman
Irene Kopelman is interested in the relationship between art and science—she encourages their connections and explores their differences. 50 metros de distancia o más (50 Meters in Distance or More) is the result of a month-long journey the artist made from Argentina to Antarctica on a boat that accommodated eight passengers. In addition to recording daily events in a journal, Kopelman made a series of drawings and watercolors that were followed by several large oil paintings created upon her return to the mainland. In these works the artist expresses the impact of an imposing frozen geography.

Unsettled Landscapes looked at the urgencies, political conditions and historical narratives that inform the work of contemporary artists across the Americas – from Nunavut to Tierra del Fuego. Through three themes – landscape, territory, and trade – this exhibition expresses the interconnections among representations of the land, movement across the land, and economies and resources derived from the land.
