For the Future, With Love (2015)
For the Future, With Love is modeled on the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) 1992 report “MARKING THE WASTE ISOLATION PILOT PLANT FOR 10,000 YEARS”, which attempts to answer the challenge on how to communicate with future civilizations about the hazardous contents within our nuclear waste storage sites. The front of the flag weaves symbolism of the universal image for radiation, warning indicators as seen in a bee’s black and yellow stripes, and the United States of America national flag. The back of the flag, also in warning colors, depicts the silhouetted landscape of White Sands Missile Range, which coincidentally echoes the ‘Spike Field’ design in the DOE report intended to warn future civilizations.
