SITE Santa Fe Gala 2013

Honorary Artist: Richard Tuttle
Honoring: Lorlee & Arnold Tenenbaum

Richard Tuttle
Richard Tuttle is widely considered one of the most influential and enduring artists of his generation. Working in sculpture, painting, drawing, printmaking, artist’s books and installation for nearly five decades, Tuttle’s work expresses an ongoing pursuit of a reduction in material, shape, color and volume. Employing humble materials ranging from bubble wrap and Styrofoam to rope and nails, Tuttle’s playful and minimal works subvert the traditions of sculpture and painting, making way for new forms and new ideas.

Richard Tuttle has exhibited extensively nationally and internationally including in one-person exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; the Institute of Contempo- rary Art, Philadelphia; Kunsthaus Zug, Switzerland; and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. In 1998, he had a solo exhibition at SITE Santa Fe in tandem with an exhibition of work by his dear friend, the late Agnes Martin. Richard Tuttle and his wife, poet Mei-Mei Berssenbrugge, live between New York, Maine and New Mexico. Their daughter Martha is an artist based in Santa Fe.

Lorlee and Arnold Tenenbaum
Born and raised in Savannah, Georgia, Arnold married Bismarck, North Dakota native, Lorlee Shark in 1959 and they have been a formidable team ever since. Retired after 44 years as the CEO of the business his grandfather started, Chatham Steel, Arnold now enjoys family and friends, traveling, community involvement and reading. Having raised four children, they now have eight grandchildren.

Lorlee notes that the night before they married, her new father-in-law told her the community had been wonderful to the Tenenbaums and they had a responsibility to give back. Taking that to heart, they are strong supporters of efforts that enrich the quality of life in Savannah and Santa Fe. In addition to SITE Santa Fe, examples of the Tenebaums’ philanthropy include Savannah College of Art and Design, Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, Savannah Jewish Federation, Telfair Museum of Art, United Way and their alma maters, Dartmouth and Sarah Lawrence College.
