Domain Of Realities: SITE Santa Fe Young Curators Exhibition

Oct 5, 2001 At the Capitol Building Rotunda Gallery

OUTSIDE CURATORIAL STATEMENT

DOMAIN OF REALITIES was the first exhibition that SITE Santa Fe’s Young Curators organized in collaboration with another group. The two groups never met face to face nor spoke on the phone, let alone knew each other’s names. The Young Curators at SITE Santa Fe worked together with a crew of anonymous Young Curators at the Santa Fe County Youth Development Program. We on the “outside” have organized a show that displays art talent from peers that live in a place that we seldom want to think about. We wanted to convey this message without overshadowing the artwork with the fact that it comes from “inside.” The art had a strong reference to the outside world. The message relates to the work made by the inside artists and curated by the “inside” group. The art themes seemed to want a reconnection to the outside world. It was decided that all the different themes found in the art, such as landscapes, abstracts, and portraiture, should be interspersed on the walls of the exhibition so the art gives the perspective of being on the inside looking out. Overall, DOMAIN OF REALITIES conveyed the notion that artistic beauty can come from the inside as well as the out.
