HOW SPREAD WORKS At each SPREAD, diners pay a sliding-scale entrance fee for which they receive dinner and a ballot. During dinner, the SPREAD audience will hear short proposals from up to eight artists for innovative and yet-to-be-realized new projects. Diners will then cast their votes for their favorite project. At the end of dinner, the artist whose proposal receives the most votes will be awarded ALL the funds collected at the door to realize their project!!! Funded projects will then be presented by SPREAD grantees at a future SPREAD dinner. HOW TO APPLY Due to the extraordinary response to our first SPREAD event, we plan to refine the application process to make it easier for artists to apply, and for the selection committee to review materials, to be timely and responsive to our applicants, and to implement several additional improvements to the process. We will be posting the information with the details regarding the new and improved application process in late April! NEW DATE To get all of this accomplished we have adjusted our SPREAD calendar to allow the next SPREAD (with new and improved systems in place) to occur on October 28, 2011 at the Santa Fe Farmers Market, and this time with a Halloween theme! STAY TUNED! The Proposal Submission Deadline for the next SPREAD is now July 15. Please check back for new application guidelines and instructions. OVERVIEW SPREAD mico-grants fund New Mexico-based artist projects. SPREAD grants are project specific and are they are not for funding an artist’s general work, nor art gallery/non-profit organizations’ overall work. If you have a question about how this might apply to you, please contact us by sending email to spreadinfo@sitesantafe.org. Please no calls. We are interested in funding projects from all disciplines including performances, publications, public projects, and interactive pieces. Before crafting your proposal, please consider the following: * What community are you trying to engage? * Who does this project benefit/who is your audience? * How do you plan to spend your grant? * When will this project occur? * If you win, how will you present your progress at the next SPREAD? All proposals will be reviewed by a committee that includes curators, artists, writers, filmmakers, and performers. If your proposal is accepted, you will be asked to attend the SPREAD dinner where you will make a short oral presentation (five minutes) so that SPREAD diners can get excited about your project and hopefully vote for you! If your idea wins the most votes, you get the grant that evening (in cash!) Then you will return to a future SPREAD dinner to talk about the progress of your project.
