Ernesto Neto

Four Corners

"Ernesto Neto’s body of art can easily be associated with the traditions of other well-known Brazilian artists, Lygia Clark and Hélio Oiticica.  The viewer becomes the participant in his large, room-sized membranous chamber works.  To create an experience of sensorial body-consciousness, Neto manipulates space, light, sound, smell and texture, using only modest materials such as nylons, spices, and sand to do so.  Neto will be creating a major new work for his exhibition at SITE Santa Fe and showing a series of drawings and photos complimenting the exhibition.

Born and based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Ernesto Neto has recently participated in both the XI Biennial in Sydney, Australia and the XXIV Bienal Internacional de São Paulo, Brasil.  Neto has had many solo exhibitions, including the Tanya Bonakdar Gallery in New York City and the Galeria Camargo Vilaça, São Paulo, Brazil in 1997.  He will show as part of the Directions program at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington DC in 2001."
